How does one alter the colour of normal darkish denim jeans to a lighter shade?

Bought darker denim jeans my size because couldn't get stone-washed colour. What, if anything, can I do to lighten them, possiblly in the washing machine? Please.

1. you could dip the jeans in chlorine or a bleaching liquid solution.but i don't think you can control the color.sometimes it turns white or really light blue.
